    Melissa Benson, Managing Attorney, Legal Aid Society of Southeast and Central Ohio
    Central Ohio experienced multiple large displacement events from multifamily properties in recent years that threatened to overwhelm the region's homeless system. In response, the City, County, Legal Aid, and other stakeholders came together in creative new ways to stabilize vulnerable residents displaced from unsafe properties. Representatives of the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, Franklin County, and Legal Aid will share their experiences responding to failing multifamily properties and strategies for preventing future crises.

    Presenters for this session will share plans to modernize and expand transit options in Central Ohio. Major investments would be made possible through a new levy set to appear on Columbus voters' November ballot. Planned transit improvements include the addition of bus rapid transit options, new sidewalk and trail connections. LinkUS hopes to increase opportunity for every resident as Central Ohio remains one of the fastest growing regions in the U.S.

11:30   Greater Ohio Policy Center, How to Build Safe, Vibrant Streets in Ohio
    Jason Warner, Director of Strategic Engagement, Greater Ohio Policy Center
    The Greater Ohio Policy Center will present recent research and reports published by the organization to help guide Ohio communities' implementation of innovative approaches to connect neighborhoods and create safe streets. The information from this session can be considered when designing future community development projects throughout the State.

1:45   The Future of Amtrak in Ohio
    Elliott Lewis, P.E., Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
    Parag Agrawal, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
    The federal government is looking to invest funding into the expansion of existing and construction of new Amtrak passenger rail lines throughout Ohio. Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission staff will provide an overview of the processes taking place to secure funding, the future of the Amtrak projects connecting Ohio communities, as well as the community and economic development impacts Ohioans can anticipate will result from the addition of passenger rail options.

3:30   Akron Innerbelt Initiative
    Kyle Julien, Director of Planning, City of Akron
    The Reconnecting Our Community Initiative is an inclusive and equitable engagement process to develop a community-centered vision for the future of a mile long stretch of the Innerbelt (State Route 59) which cuts through the City of Akron was permanently closed to traffic in 2016. The construction of the highway displaced families and businesses resulting in harmful impacts on west Akron and downtown Akron communities. Kyle Julien, the City of Akron, will discuss the project’s focus on documenting history, resident engagement efforts, community healing from the past and planning around the short- and long-term future of the site.
