With the holiday season in full swing and January right around the corner, it is also time to begin looking toward the 2019 OCCD Winter Quarterly.
The OCCD Staff and Board invite you to attend this year’s Winter Quarterly Meeting, which will be held on January 23rd and 24th, 2019 at the Embassy Suites, Dublin (5100 Upper Metro Place, Dublin, OH 43017).This should be a great opportunity for us to expand our knowledge of community development through networking and informational sessions.
This January, we look forward to a variety of sessions on a range of topics. We begin Wednesday with a presentation from the Ohio Community Development Corporation Association (OCDCA), focusing on programs and resources CDCs have available to assist with development projects. The second session will focus on the development work CDCs are doing in several neighborhoods in the City of Cincinnati.
Staying in the City of Cincinnati for the remainder of the morning, the next session will focus on the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) and the tireless work of local development organizations to turn-around a neighborhood, once listed as one of the most dangerous in the United States.
Following our networking lunch, we will again offer attendees the opportunity to sit-in on a committee meeting of their choice, followed by our business meeting. The mid-afternoon session will provide updates on state legislation with a hint of insight from the 2018 midterm elections. The final session will be a facilitated discussion related to the OCCD Strategic Planning Process. The day will conclude with a retirement reception honoring Jorgelle Lawson, Myrna Cokes, and Rich Hendershot.
On Thursday morning, we begin with two panel discussions: The first will highlight best practices from the City of Ravenna, and the second will focus on how communities across Ohio are implementing “Smart City” and “Smart Infrastructure” projects. The meeting will conclude with the Entitlement and Small Cities meetings.
I look forward to seeing you on January 23rd and 24th in Dublin.
